About the Kiwileles
The Kiwileles programme celebrated 16 years in 2022.  Our Kiwileles come from participating schools all over New Zealand. Membership has grown to an incredible 6,000 children annually.

Most Kiwileles join the programme as beginners. By the end of one year, they can play songs using several chords and a variety of strums. Some sing in harmony, and many learn to read tab and play lead melody lines.

Some will have written and performed their own songs and raps. They are amazing! When the Kiwileles perform they bring joy and pride to themselves, their schools and their families. It’s an uplifting and empowering experience they will never forget!

Kiwileles Songbank
The Kiwileles Songbank contains graded songs to suit all abilities. It is packed with songs and waiata specifically chosen and arranged by educators and musicians for NZ tamariki. The resource includes song sheets, teaching tips and lyric/chord videos, with a focus on NZ songwriters and bands.  All songs are included with the permission of the songwriter (or their whānau/family) or with copyright permission where applicable. This ensures our Kiwileles schools are compliant with NZ copyright legislation.

All schools are reminded to purchase a ONE MUSIC licence that entitles them to perform music at school, take part in music festivals, photocopy music for educational purposes, produce recordings of school performances and communicate music on a school intranet.
Kiwileles Uke-Hubs
Registered Kiwileles Schools are encouraged to join together with other schools in their area for a Kiwileles Jam. These are a great experience for tamariki and a fantastic way to practise and perform songs and waiata with others. Support and suggestions are provided to our Uke-Hub Leaders to ensure their Jam will be a huge success!
NZ Ukulele Squads
Te Kapa Ukurere o Aotearoa
The NZ Ukulele Squads are an opportunity for talented ukulele students to develop their musicianship. They are an extension of the Kiwileles Ukulele Education program.

Unfortunately we’re not in a position to run the NZUT Squads this year but stay tuned for 2024
